Plan B?

After our larger-than-expected Interest meeting on Sunday, one of my colleagues encouraged me to pretty quickly work out our plan B. In other words, if the auditorium is 80% full early next year, what is the next step?

One of the big surprises for me at our recent interest meeting was the large numbers of people either approaching retirement or having commenced retirement. Although, perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised. In a conversation with Tea Tree Gully’s Mayor earlier in the year, she said that in 10 years time, 25% of the local population would be retirees! How do we reach out to this growing group in the North East? Do we actually need to plant a congregation with this group in mind? What would this look like? The Holy Trinity Adelaide Music Director, Mark Peterson, reflected that those who are planning to join us next year include a number of good choristers? Is it time to bring back the choir?

My initial reaction is to run a million miles from this… but I have to keep thinking evangelistically. Maybe a choir once a month in a more traditional gathering would actually help promote the gospel?

Wow! What a meeting!

Wow! Last Sunday afternoon we hosted a Interest Meeting for people thinking about joining us at Trinity North East. The core team of 12 got organised with good signs, excellent coffee, a massive afternoon tea etc etc. But really we had no idea who or how many would turn up! It was simply staggering when 90 people came along! Other than scratching my head with all the implications that this involves, we praise God for this! Clearly there are enough people on board, so we should probably go ahead with the plant!
